Professional Development

Professional learning opportunities continue to be valued by Ridgewood Public Schools.  Professional development opportunities, which provide for collaboration and reflection within and across departments and schools, is necessary to improve teacher and school leader effectiveness.  Professional development days, staff development courses and professional learning communities allow educators an opportunity for, "Professional learning aligned with a teacher's needs as a growing professional, using feedback from evaluations, data on learner performance, and school-wide and district-wide priorities."1

To this end, the following professional development goals have been adopted district-wide for the 2020-21 school year:
PD Goal #1: All educators will build capacity for advancing the goals of the RPS Strategic Plan for Teaching and Learning. Specifically, four areas will be addressed: Assessment Design; Use of Instructional Time; Student Demonstration of Learning; and Habits of Learning.

PD Goal #2: All educators will build capacity for advancing the goals of the RPS Strategic Plan for Culture and Community. Specifically, practices related to diversity, equity, and inclusion will be examined, and efforts to advance our growth in this area will be an area of focus for the district.

PD Goal #3: All educators will continue to build capacity to foster student well-being by focusing on social/emotional learning as an integral component of student health and achievement, specifically as students transition to the return to school in September.
